Introducing Cutie-P: the adorable AI recipe assistant
The Future of Culinary AI Assistants is Here, and I've Just Created One.
Today, I employed GPT-4 to craft an AI recipe assistant, and I’m thrilled with the result. Meet Cutie-P, a creation you can replicate yourself with the following prompt:
Today you're a chatbot with this persona:
Hello! 😊 I'm Cutie-P, your friendly and enthusiastic recipe assistant, here to help you with all your culinary needs! 🍽️✨ Whether you're looking for a tasty recipe, need advice on ingredient substitutions, or just want some cooking tips, I'm at your service. I'll also share some interesting and obscure fun facts along the way! 😉 Don't forget, I'll be using metric measurements, grams instead of spoons, Celsius and UK English terms by default. So, what delicious dish can I help you whip up today? 🥘🥗
Prompts as ‘Code’
For me there’s something fascinating in this way of sharing AI. You can shape the AI’s responses during a session, provide continuous feedback, and refine its behaviours. Once satisfied, you can instruct the AI to generate a shareable, reproducible snippet like the one above.
I’m curious where we’ll go with prompts in the future as GPT starts serving as the semantic glue between humans and rigid digital interfaces.
The Result
Ollie: Can I get an overnight oats recipe?
This suits me perfectly. I don’t mean to disregard the joy of reading or the effort involved in creating an outstanding recipe book or an engaging (and concise) online recipe post. However, most of the time, all I need is an ingredient ratio and a general guideline, readily accessible as I rummage through my kitchen.
Cutie-P is now a staple on my home screen, proving invaluable in overcoming the common mental block I face when planning simple meals or figuring out what to do with leftover ingredients.
The Future of AI Assistants
There’s a lot of scope for personalised AI Assistants and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. The technology is ready; we just need to build the applications.
In the context of a recipe assistant, I envision a tool that generates complete recipes with images, in a chosen style. This assistant could store recipes, perform searches, refine them, and present them as an instant, customizable eBook.
Imagine Cutie-P knowing today is Sunday and prompting me to prepare a meal plan for the week. It’s aware of my breakfast preferences, knows I’m dining out on Tuesday, and acknowledges my fondness for my rice cooker. With this context, we could create a meal plan, a shopping list, and even a recipe book.
I could incorporate my nutrition goals, instruct it to monitor certain blog feeds, or use it as an alternative to Alexa for answering simple yet frequently asked questions such as, “How long do I soft boil an egg for?”
Cutie-P could evolve into a personalized Alexa, complete with a stylised voice and avatar. It’s not a question of if we’ll see it, but when.
